Fri Mar 28 18:13:27 UTC 2025: ## Supreme Court Allows Kumaraswamy to Challenge Eviction Notice in High Court

**New Delhi, March 29, 2025** – The Supreme Court has granted Union Minister and JD(S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy permission to challenge an eviction notice issued by Karnataka revenue authorities in the Karnataka High Court. The eviction order stemmed from contempt proceedings in which Kumaraswamy was not a party.

Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi argued before the Supreme Court that the eviction notice was a “comedy of errors,” as Kumaraswamy had already filed a separate writ petition in the High Court challenging the order. The Supreme Court agreed that issuing the eviction notice while Kumaraswamy was already removed from the contempt proceedings placed him in a difficult position.

The dispute centers on allegations that Kumaraswamy and his associates encroached on government land in Kethaganahalli village near Bidadi. Kumaraswamy maintains the land was legally purchased and that he is the target of political maneuvering by the Congress government in Karnataka. The High Court has previously issued an interim order preventing coercive action against Kumaraswamy. The Supreme Court’s decision allows Kumaraswamy to continue his legal challenge in the High Court.
