**Los Angeles, CA** – The Los Angeles Sparks will honor WNBA legend Candace Parker by retiring her No. 3 jersey on June 29th, the team announced Thursday. Parker becomes only the third player in franchise history to receive this honor, joining Hall of Famer Lisa Leslie (No. 9) and Penny Toler (No. 11).
A two-time WNBA MVP, Parker led the Sparks to a championship in 2016 during her 13-season tenure with the team. She expressed her gratitude in a statement, crediting her family, teammates, and the Sparks organization for their unwavering support. “To see my jersey hanging in the rafters amongst other legends is truly an honor,” she said.
Following her time with the Sparks, Parker played for the Chicago Sky, winning a championship with her hometown team in 2021, and the Las Vegas Aces in 2023, before retiring in 2024. She has since transitioned to a successful broadcasting career with Turner Sports.
Sparks co-owner Magic Johnson lauded Parker’s impact, stating, “Candace Parker has left an indelible mark on the Los Angeles Sparks…Retiring Candace’s No. 3 jersey is not just a celebration of her extraordinary career, but a tribute to the enduring mark she’s left on this organization, the WNBA, and the city of Los Angeles.” The ceremony will solidify Parker’s legacy as a cornerstone of the Sparks franchise and a prominent figure in women’s basketball.
