Sat Mar 29 14:31:01 UTC 2025: ## South Africa Ranked World’s Most Dangerous Country to Drive

**Johannesburg, March 29, 2025** – South Africa has been ranked the world’s most dangerous country to drive for the second year running, according to a new report by U.S.-based driver training company Zutobi.com. The report, which analyzed data from 53 countries, considered factors such as motorway speed limits, blood alcohol concentration limits, and road traffic death rates.

India placed 49th, among the bottom five, while the United States ranked 51st, making it the third most dangerous country to drive. Norway retained its title as the safest country for driving for the fourth consecutive year.

The average global road traffic death rate decreased from 8.9 to 6.3 per 100,000 people since last year’s report. However, Zutobi noted that while legal frameworks exist in countries like South Africa, lack of enforcement, including bribery amongst traffic officials, contributes significantly to the high accident rate. Alisha Chinnah, who works for a Johannesburg-based vehicle licensing company, confirmed this, citing widespread driver discussion of corruption among traffic officers.
