**Chennai, March 29, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu government will invest ₹29.47 crore to establish new silk farms across the state, benefiting 3,050 farmers, announced Minister for Micro, Small, and Medium Scale Industries, Tha. Mo. Anbarasan. The initiative aims to improve silk production by providing controlled environments for silkworm cultivation, leading to higher quality cocoons.
The minister, speaking during a Legislative Assembly debate, detailed the plan which includes ₹6.82 crore in financial assistance for farmers cultivating high-yield mulberry varieties. Furthermore, ₹4.82 crore will be allocated to provide machines for producing seri-compost, a bio-fertilizer crucial for mulberry growth. Infrastructure improvements, including new buildings and deep wells, are also planned for several locations including Kalkondappalli, Thali, Uthanapalli, Melagiri, Hosur, and Avalapalli, with additional construction slated for Hosur and Thalavadi in Erode district.
