**Mumbai, March 29, 2025** – Shariful Islam Shehzad, the Bangladeshi man accused of attacking actor Saif Ali Khan during a January 16th home robbery attempt, has filed a bail application with the Mumbai Sessions Court. Shehzad, who has been in custody since his arrest, pleads innocence and claims the case against him is fabricated.
His lawyer, Ajay Gawali, argues that the initial First Information Report (FIR) was improperly registered and that Shehzad has fully cooperated with the investigation, making any evidence tampering impossible. While the case is currently before the Bandra Magistrate Court, it will be transferred to the Sessions Court upon the police filing of the chargesheet, which is yet to be submitted.
The attack at Khan’s Bandra home resulted in serious injuries to the actor’s thoracic spine and other body parts. Khan was hospitalized for five days following the incident. Mumbai Police previously stated they possessed ample evidence against Shehzad, including oral, physical, and technical evidence, refuting claims of fingerprint mismatches. Police also confirmed Shehzad’s illegal entry into India from Bangladesh and his movements prior to arriving in Mumbai.
