Fri Mar 28 18:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Reddit Experiences Widespread Outage Affecting Thousands
**NEW YORK, NY –** A significant outage hit Reddit on Thursday afternoon, impacting tens of thousands of users. According to outage tracking website DownDetector.com, over 35,000 people reported issues starting around 2:40 p.m. EDT. The problems peaked at approximately 35,044 reports around 3:15 p.m. EDT.
The majority of issues (47%) were related to the Reddit mobile app, with 42% affecting the website itself. A smaller percentage (11%) reported server connection problems.
Reddit acknowledged the outage on X (formerly Twitter) and announced they were investigating the issue. By 3:48 p.m. EDT, they reported implementing a fix and monitoring its effectiveness. While DownDetector showed a decrease in reported issues after the announcement, thousands of users still experienced problems.
This is not Reddit’s first major outage. In November 2023, the platform suffered back-to-back outages within 24 hours, affecting tens of thousands of users. Reddit attributed at least one of these incidents to a bug in a recent update.
The Reddit outage follows recent service disruptions at Meta’s Facebook and Instagram earlier this week, highlighting the vulnerability of large social media platforms to unexpected technical difficulties. Reddit did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
