**Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh:** A pregnant woman in Ratlam district, Madhya Pradesh, died hours after giving birth en route to a hospital. Her newborn also died. The incident has sparked outrage after a video went viral showing the woman’s husband transporting her on a handcart to the hospital for a third time after she was allegedly turned away twice by the Sailana Community Health Centre.

According to officials, Krishna Gwala took his wife, Neetu, to the health centre on March 23rd at 9 am. Nurse Chetna Charel reportedly sent them away, claiming delivery was days away. The same scenario repeated at 1 am on March 24th when Nurse Gayatri Patidar refused admission, estimating delivery in 15 hours. Neetu delivered the baby en route to the hospital during a third attempt at 3 am, but the child died shortly after.

Following a complaint filed by Gwala, the District Collector Rajesh Batham ordered an inquiry. The investigation found negligence on the part of the health centre staff. Sailana Block Medical Officer Dr. PC Koli received a show-cause notice, and action against on-duty doctor Shailesh Dange has been sought from the state Commissioner of Health Services. Nurse Chetna Charel has been suspended, and the contract of Nurse Gayatri Patidar has been terminated. The incident has highlighted concerns regarding healthcare access and negligence in rural areas.
