**MUMBAI, INDIA** – Yograj Singh, father of former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, has issued a surprising retraction of his previous harsh criticisms of MS Dhoni. In a recent podcast appearance, Yograj stated that he has “never differentiated between Yuvraj and the others in the Indian team, not even Dhoni.” This directly contradicts earlier statements where he vehemently blamed Dhoni for allegedly shortening Yuvraj’s international career and vowed he would never forgive the former captain.
In September 2024, Yograj publicly accused Dhoni of destroying his son’s career, claiming Yuvraj could have played for four or five more years. He characterized Dhoni’s actions as unforgivable.
This about-face comes as a surprise, considering the close relationship between Yuvraj and Dhoni during their time together in the Indian team. The pair were instrumental in India’s victories in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 Cricket World Cup, famously sharing the crease when Dhoni hit the winning six in the final. While Yuvraj’s career was later impacted by cancer treatment, he continued to represent India after recovery, playing in the 2014 World Cup and 2017 Champions Trophy.
Dhoni, at 43, continues to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL), recently demonstrating his impressive skills with stumpings in IPL 2025. Meanwhile, Yuvraj recently contributed to the India Masters’ victory in the India Masters League (IML). The reasons behind Yograj Singh’s change of heart remain unclear.
