**NEW YORK** – Katie Thurston, former star of ABC’s *The Bachelorette*, is sharing details of her breast cancer treatment plan following her stage 3 diagnosis in February. The 34-year-old revealed on the *Almost Famous* podcast that she’s weighing her surgical options: a lumpectomy or a mastectomy.

While her surgeon prefers the less invasive lumpectomy, Thurston is considering a double mastectomy to minimize the risk of recurrence. She expressed a desire to preserve her left breast, especially considering her age and future family plans, including the possibility of breastfeeding. However, she emphasized that her health remains her top priority.

Before surgery, Thurston will undergo chemotherapy to shrink the tumor. She noted that her insurance covers reconstruction if she chooses a mastectomy.
