Sat Mar 29 09:40:00 UTC 2025: ## J&K Mourns Police Officer Killed in Kathua Encounter; Deputy CM Blames Pakistan

**Jammu, March 29, 2025** – Jammu and Kashmir is mourning the loss of Head Constable Jagbir Singh, one of four police officers killed during a two-day encounter with terrorists in Kathua district. The encounter, which also resulted in the deaths of two suspected Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists, concluded on March 29th.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah led a wreath-laying ceremony for Singh, attended by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, the Director General of Police, and family members of the deceased.

Choudhary delivered a strong condemnation of Pakistan, stating that conspiracies hatched across the border are responsible for the ongoing violence and the deaths of J&K police officers. He emphasized that decades of terrorism have yielded nothing for Pakistan, urging them to cease their support for militancy. Choudhary highlighted the unity amongst J&K’s diverse communities, stating that the brotherhood of the region is strong and cannot be broken.

The fallen officers, representing both Hindu and Muslim communities, underscore the shared grief felt across J&K. The Deputy Chief Minister reiterated the commitment of both the central and J&K governments to ending the violence and protecting their citizens. The operation in Safiyan forest continues.
