Fri Mar 28 22:10:00 UTC 2025: **CBS Sports Announces Major Analyst Shakeup; J.J. Watt Joins Broadcast Team**

NEW YORK – CBS Sports announced a significant restructuring of its broadcast team today, highlighted by the addition of former NFL star J.J. Watt as an NFL game analyst. Watt, a future Pro Football Hall of Famer, will partner with Ian Eagle on the network’s second-string broadcast team, starting this season.

This move follows the announcement of Gary Danielson’s retirement after the 2025 season. Danielson, a 36-year broadcasting veteran and beloved college football analyst, will conclude his career with one final season. Replacing him in the college ranks will be Charles Davis, who currently works alongside Eagle on NFL broadcasts. Davis’ role for the remainder of the current NFL season is yet to be determined. He will team with Brad Nessler for top Big Ten games beginning in 2026.

Watt, who previously contributed to CBS’s NFL Today studio show, expressed his excitement about transitioning to game analysis after a positive experience calling a Christmas Day game with Eagle for Netflix.

CBS President and CEO David Berson lauded Danielson’s contribution to the network, calling him “one of the greatest college football analysts ever.” Berson praised Danielson’s dedication and team spirit, crediting him with elevating CBS Sports’ college football coverage to the highest standard.

The reshuffling leaves CBS with a strong bench for future broadcasting needs, particularly given Watt’s successful transition to the booth. With their star NFL analyst Tony Romo locked in for several more years, CBS now has a potential successor should the need arise.
