**Karaikal, Puducherry – March 29, 2025** – Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ajit Kumar Singla launched a road safety awareness campaign in Karaikal on Saturday, emphasizing the importance of helmet use and adherence to traffic rules. The campaign included the distribution of helmets.
Addressing reporters, IGP Singla announced a ten-year plan to achieve zero road fatalities across Puducherry, Mahe, and Yanam. He urged citizens to prioritize safety by wearing helmets and following traffic regulations to prevent accidents and injuries.
The police department is actively working to address road safety concerns. This includes filling police vacancies, installing additional traffic signals where needed, and increasing law enforcement presence through intensified beat patrolling, weekend marches, and increased deployment of tourist and traffic police.
Regarding the demand for a new women’s police station, IGP Singla stated that the proposal will be considered based on population density and the number of reported cases. He also confirmed that a new contract has been awarded for coastal security patrolling boats, following the expiration of the previous agreement.
