Sat Mar 29 00:30:00 UTC 2025: ## BYD’s Electric Vehicle Plant Poised for Telangana

**Hyderabad, March 28, 2025** – Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD is on the verge of establishing its first Indian manufacturing plant in Telangana, pending final approval from the Indian government. Sources within the Telangana state government confirmed the project, potentially a multi-billion dollar investment, is moving forward after receiving an “informal green light” from the central government.

The project, expected to create thousands of jobs and stimulate the growth of a supporting component manufacturing ecosystem, is touted as one of the largest investments Telangana has attracted. While Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra also competed for the project, Telangana’s proactive policies on electric mobility, central location, and readily available land are believed to have given it an edge.

The final decision rests with the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB), which will review the proposal before recommending approval to the government. The project’s progress hinges on improving Indo-China relations, with a source noting that a quicker improvement would expedite the process.

Telangana’s Industries Minister, K.T. Rama Rao, confirmed on social media that the $10 billion investment proposal, initially stalled due to geopolitical tensions, is finally progressing. A 200-acre site near Olectra’s electric bus plant in Chandanvelly has been identified, though alternative locations remain a possibility.

The Telangana government is emphasizing its preparedness, highlighting readily available land and robust infrastructure as key advantages in attracting investors. The entry of BYD, alongside Tesla’s ongoing consideration of entering the Indian market, signals a potential surge in electric vehicle manufacturing in India.
