**Hyderabad, March 29, 2025** – A 41-year-old Hyderabad businessman fell victim to a sophisticated reward points scam, losing ₹1 lakh. The scam began with a phone call from individuals posing as IndusInd Bank representatives, informing him of fictitious reward points. When a provided link failed to work, the scammers sent a malicious APK file. After installing the file and entering his credit card details, the victim discovered ₹1 lakh had been debited from his account.
He immediately reported the incident to the cybercrime helpline (1930) and filed an online complaint. Hyderabad police warned citizens against clicking on unknown links or downloading unfamiliar applications, stressing that banks never share such information via social media. Authorities also reiterated the importance of protecting sensitive banking details, urging immediate password changes if such information is compromised.
