Suryapet, Telangana: Municipal officials in Nereducherla staged a protest outside the home of a resident, Banothu Bhima, on Thursday, over unpaid property taxes. Bhima, residing in ward 3, has allegedly accumulated arrears of ₹27,542 since 2015-16. Despite repeated requests and offers of a 90% government interest waiver, Bhima has consistently delayed payment, citing lack of road and drainage facilities as reasons. Although he recently paid ₹3,000, the remaining balance remains outstanding. The officials, led by Municipal Commissioner Ashok Reddy, resorted to the protest after repeated notices, including red notices, failed to elicit a response. As a further measure, water and drainage services to the property were temporarily suspended. The protest was attended by Municipal Manager Yaqub Ali, ward officials, and revenue personnel. The municipality is urging Bhima to utilize the available interest waiver and settle his outstanding dues.
