**Hyderabad, March 28, 2025** – A 30-year-old woman, Arogya Vijji, has been arrested in Hyderabad for allegedly murdering her 14-day-old daughter. Police say Vijji, a native of Tamil Nadu, drowned the infant in a water bucket and then falsely reported the baby missing.
The incident occurred on March 25th in IDA Bandlaguda, Mailardevpally. Vijji’s husband, Mudalai Mani, reported receiving a distressed call from his wife that morning, claiming the baby was found unresponsive in a bucket of water. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the infant was pronounced dead on arrival.
Investigations revealed that the motive behind the crime was financial strain. Mani has been battling kidney failure and undergoing treatment, and Vijji feared the added financial burden of raising another child. The couple, who migrated to Bandlaguda five years ago, also have a one-year-old son.
Vijji was taken into custody three days after the incident and has been remanded to judicial custody. Police are continuing their investigation.
