Fri Mar 28 06:42:06 UTC 2025: ## Trump Issues Executive Order Targeting Smithsonian’s “Race-Centered Ideology”

**Washington, D.C.** – President Donald Trump has signed an executive order aiming to reshape the Smithsonian Institution, the world’s largest museum complex, claiming it promotes a “divisive, race-centered ideology.” The order, titled “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History,” designates Vice President JD Vance to oversee the changes.

Trump’s order accuses the Smithsonian of showcasing narratives that portray American and Western values negatively. Specific museums targeted include the American Art Museum and the National Museum of African American History and Culture. The executive order states that museums should be places of learning, not ideological indoctrination.

The order prohibits the Smithsonian from hosting or funding exhibits deemed to degrade shared American values, divide Americans based on race, or promote ideologies inconsistent with federal law. This includes a ban on exhibits celebrating trans women at the still-under-development Women’s History Museum.

The move follows a similar effort by Trump to overhaul the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. It’s part of a broader administration push to reverse policies supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and combat the spread of critical race theory, which the President and other Republicans oppose. The order also suggests a potential return of Confederate monuments and symbols to federal sites. The Smithsonian, encompassing 21 museums and the National Zoo, is now under direct presidential control to implement these sweeping changes.
