Thu Mar 27 19:13:10 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Toll Rates to Increase at 40 Plazas

**Chennai, March 28, 2025** – Toll rates at approximately 40 plazas across Tamil Nadu’s National Highways will increase from April 1st, according to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The annual revision, based on the Wholesale Price Index (WPI), will result in a marginal increase, estimated between ₹5 and ₹25 per vehicle per trip. The hike affects plazas such as those on the Chennai Elevated Bypass, Chennai-Kolkata Highway, and Chennai-Tiruchi Highway. The NHAI manages 75 toll plazas in the state; the remaining plazas’ rates will be revised in September.

The increase has drawn criticism from residents who cite issues with Fastag services, including double deductions and incorrect charges. Padmapriya, a West Mambalam resident, called for an end to the annual toll revisions. Consumer activist T. Sadagopan highlighted concerns about the Chennai Outer Ring Road, urging the Tamil Nadu Road Development Company (TNRDC) to improve patrolling to prevent livestock on the road and enhance lighting on service lanes. The TNRDC confirmed a marginal increase in toll rates for the four plazas it manages on the Outer Ring Road.
