**KOCHI, March 28, 2025** – An Ernakulam court has fined the driver and owner of a tipper lorry ₹38,000 each for carrying a nine-tonne overload. The incident occurred in December 2021 when a Motor Vehicle inspector found the 25-tonne capacity lorry carrying 34 tonnes. The driver and owner initially refused to pay the ₹23,500 fine levied by the Motor Vehicles Department, leading to a court case. After hearing five witnesses, including officials from the MVD and Legal Metrology department, the court imposed the higher fine.
