**Jalandhar, Punjab, March 28, 2025** – Bajinder Singh, a self-proclaimed prophet with a large following across North India, is facing multiple allegations of sexual harassment and assault. Singh, who leads the Glory and Wisdom Church in Tajpur village, boasts millions of followers across social media platforms and draws thousands to his weekly prayer meetings. However, a recent FIR filed by a 21-year-old woman alleging sexual harassment, stalking, and criminal intimidation has cast a shadow over his ministry.
The woman, a former volunteer at Singh’s church, claims years of abuse, beginning when she was a minor. She alleges she received sexually explicit messages and calls from Singh and was physically assaulted. The police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate these claims, which also include a separate FIR alleging assault against a 35-year-old woman pastor.
Despite these allegations, Singh maintains his innocence, attributing the accusations to a conspiracy. His followers remain steadfast in their support, citing their faith in his healing powers and attributing the legal challenges to divine testing. The allegations have drawn attention to the broader phenomenon of “dera” churches in Punjab – independent ministries often attracting large followings, particularly amongst Dalit communities, with promises of miraculous healing and social equality. The involvement of political parties in these churches during recent elections has also come under scrutiny.
While Singh’s ministry claims widespread reach, including international branches, he has not yet been questioned by police despite the gravity of the allegations. The investigation is ongoing, with police examining evidence and witnesses. The case highlights the complex interplay of faith, power, and allegations of abuse within the rapidly growing landscape of independent religious ministries in Punjab.
