**New York, NY** – Social media platforms X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit experienced widespread service disruptions on Thursday afternoon, affecting thousands of users in the United States. Outage tracking website Downdetector.com registered over 33,000 reported incidents at the peak of Reddit’s outage, which began around 3:16 PM ET. X, owned by Elon Musk, saw approximately 18,000 reported incidents starting around 3:03 PM ET.

Reddit confirmed degraded performance on its status page, stating that a fix had been implemented and the situation was being monitored. Both X and Reddit have yet to publicly comment on the cause of the outages.

Downdetector emphasizes that its data is based on user reports, and the actual number of affected users may differ. Service was restored for both platforms later in the afternoon.
