Fri Mar 28 13:02:56 UTC 2025: ## Delhi High Court Judge Transferred Amidst Cash Stash Controversy

**New Delhi, [Date]** – The Indian government has confirmed the transfer of Delhi High Court Judge Justice Yashwant Varma to the Allahabad High Court, a move that has sparked controversy. The transfer, approved by the President following consultation with the Chief Justice of India, comes amidst an ongoing inquiry into an alleged large cash stash found at a property connected to Justice Varma.

Justice Varma’s transfer was decided by the Supreme Court collegium. However, the Supreme Court has instructed the Allahabad High Court Chief Justice to refrain from assigning Justice Varma any judicial work upon his arrival. This decision follows protests from Allahabad High Court lawyers who voiced concerns about their court being used as a “dumping ground.”

The Supreme Court maintains that the transfer is unrelated to the ongoing investigation into the alleged cash stash, which was reportedly destroyed in a fire at a structure on Justice Varma’s premises. Justice Varma himself has denied any wrongdoing, attributing the allegations to a conspiracy.

Former Attorney General of India Mukul Rohatgi, however, disagrees with the Supreme Court’s assertion, stating that the transfer appears directly linked to the cash stash controversy. He has called for a thorough investigation into the matter, highlighting several unanswered questions surrounding the incident. The controversy continues to raise concerns about transparency and accountability within the judiciary.
