Fri Mar 28 07:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Partial Solar Eclipse to Grace Northern Hemisphere Skies on March 29, 2025

**Washington, D.C. –** A partial solar eclipse will be visible across portions of the Northern Hemisphere on March 29, 2025, NASA announced. While a total solar eclipse will not be visible from anywhere on Earth, observers in North America, Europe, Africa, northern Asia, parts of South America, Greenland, Iceland, and across much of the Atlantic and Arctic oceans will witness the Moon partially obscuring the Sun.

The eclipse’s visibility will vary depending on location. In North America, including the northeastern United States, the partial eclipse will begin at sunrise. Western Europe and northwestern Africa will see the eclipse mid- to late morning, while eastern Europe and northern Asia will experience it in the afternoon or early evening.

**Crucial Safety Precautions:**

NASA stresses the importance of using proper eye protection during the eclipse. Regular sunglasses are insufficient; viewers must use certified solar viewing glasses (“eclipse glasses”) or a safe handheld solar viewer complying with the ISO 12312-2 international standard. Looking at the Sun directly, even partially obscured, without proper protection can cause serious eye damage. Never look at the Sun through optical devices like cameras, telescopes, or binoculars without specialized solar filters attached.

Safe indirect viewing methods, such as pinhole projectors or observing the projected image through the gaps in leaves, are also recommended.

This partial eclipse occurs because the Sun, Moon, and Earth won’t be perfectly aligned, resulting in the Moon only partially blocking the Sun’s light. The agency encourages eclipse watchers to look for sunspots while observing the event using the recommended safety measures.
