Fri Mar 28 11:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Wrong-Way Driver Killed in I-295 Crash
**SCARBOROUGH, ME** – A fatal head-on collision shut down a section of I-295 near Scarborough, Maine, for several hours Friday morning. Maine State Police reported that an 86-year-old Portland resident, George Vandenburgh, driving the wrong way on the interstate, collided with a tractor-trailer near the toll booth between mile markers 3 and 4. Vandenburgh was pronounced dead at the scene.
The tractor-trailer driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Both northbound and southbound lanes were closed for an extended period, causing significant traffic delays and detours. Traffic has since resumed. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
