**Mumbai, India** – India has solidified its position as a global billionaire hub, claiming the third spot on the Hurun Global Rich List 2025 with a record 284 billionaires, a 13% increase year-on-year. This places India behind only the United States and China. The UK, Germany, and Switzerland round out the top five.
While Shanghai surpassed Mumbai as Asia’s billionaire capital with 92 individuals, Mumbai still boasts a significant 90 billionaires. Other countries experiencing a surge in billionaire numbers include Singapore, Russia, Canada, Turkey, and Mexico.
The report highlights significant shifts in India’s billionaire landscape. Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group, experienced the largest wealth gain, adding nearly ₹1 lakh crore (approximately $12 billion USD) to his fortune, bringing his total to ₹8.4 lakh crore (approximately $102 billion USD). He is now the 18th richest person globally and India’s second richest. Mukesh Ambani, chairman and MD of Reliance Industries, saw a ₹1 lakh crore decrease, dropping him from the global top 10 but retaining his title as Asia’s wealthiest person.
A notable achievement was Roshni Nadar Malhotra, chairperson of HCL Technologies, becoming the first Indian woman to enter the global top 10 richest women, securing fifth place with a net worth of ₹3.5 lakh crore (approximately $42 billion USD).
The Hurun Global Rich List 2025, which includes 3,442 billionaires from 71 countries, shows a collective 13% increase in wealth compared to the previous year. The list showcases a dynamic Indian billionaire landscape, with significant wealth creation and notable shifts in rankings.
