Fri Mar 28 12:44:43 UTC 2025: ## Coimbatore Road Over Bridge Project to Resume After Years of Delays
**COIMBATORE, March 28, 2025** – Construction on a long-delayed road over bridge (ROB) at Thaneerpandal in Coimbatore is set to resume. The State Highways Department has announced it will begin work on the ramps for the 549-meter-long ROB, which will span the railway track. The project, stalled for over a decade due to land acquisition disputes, will see the completion of the main carriageway, including 18 decks (with one already built by the Railways). The approach ramps will measure 137 meters from Avinashi Road and 68 meters towards Thaneerpandal. Bids for the project will be opened next month.
While the railways completed their section five years ago, delays stemmed primarily from legal battles over land. Local residents, such as Peelamedu resident Balasubramaniam, have expressed concerns about the prolonged delay, citing safety hazards for pedestrians crossing the ungated railway track. He urged the authorities to expedite construction of the service roads as well. The Highways Department has stated that work on the main ROB is proceeding as the land dispute only affects the service roads.
