Fri Mar 28 08:24:39 UTC 2025: ## Telangana Gig Workers Welcome Cooperative Ride-Hailing Service

**Hyderabad, March 28, 2025** – The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers’ Union (TGPWU) has enthusiastically welcomed Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s announcement of “Sahkar Taxi,” a cooperative-based ride-hailing service aimed at benefiting drivers and delivery workers.

According to TGPWU leader Shaik Salauddin, the initiative seeks to eliminate intermediaries and ensure fair compensation for gig workers. He highlighted the urgent need to empower workers, particularly within the exploitative gig economy. Salauddin stated that a significant number of workers have already expressed interest in joining the cooperative.

The TGPWU advocates for worker-owned collectives, enabling drivers and delivery personnel to operate independently of exploitative platform models. The union urged the government for swift implementation and the inclusion of existing worker unions in the cooperative’s framework. They emphasized that a cooperative model offers a fair alternative, allowing workers to set their own terms and directly benefit from their labor.

The TGPWU plans to closely monitor the rollout of “Sahkar Taxi” and actively engage with the government throughout the process.
