Fri Mar 28 14:59:32 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Allocates ₹1 Crore for Flood Early Warning System

**Thiruvananthapuram, March 28, 2025** – The Kerala Water Resources Department announced the allocation of ₹1 crore for a new real-time flood early warning system across eight districts. The initiative, announced Friday by Water Resources Minister Roshy Augustine, is a direct response to the devastating floods of 2018 and 2019.

The system will utilize eleven strategically chosen locations across rivers and vulnerable areas in the districts of Kottayam, Wayanad, Pathanamthitta, Kollam, Kannur, Kasaragod, Malappuram, and Kozhikode. These locations will be equipped with real-time data acquisition systems to monitor water levels, rainfall, and other weather patterns.

The Kerala State Electricity Board is partnering with the Water Resources Department to develop and maintain the system. The collected data will be shared with District Disaster Management Authorities and subsequently made available to the public. This timely information will allow for proactive measures, including evacuations and infrastructure strengthening, to mitigate the impact of future floods.
