Fri Mar 28 14:45:03 UTC 2025: ## Kozhikode Improves Food Safety with FSSAI Hygiene Rating Scheme
**Kozhikode, Kerala, March 28, 2025** – The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India’s (FSSAI) hygiene rating scheme, implemented under the Eat Right Challenge, is making strides in Kozhikode district. Ninety-seven hotels have already been rated, with plans to expand the program to 100 more food service establishments within the next six months. The voluntary system encourages self-compliance and builds consumer trust.
Government-approved Hygiene Rating Audit Agencies (HRAA) oversee the process, awarding a “safe place to eat” tag to establishments achieving a 4+ rating. The initiative extends beyond restaurants, with five schools achieving “eat right schools” status, and several temples and railway stations receiving similar recognition. Two fruit markets have also been certified as “clean markets.”
Ratings are based on six key parameters: personal hygiene, healthy eating habits, safe water handling, complaint redressal, open kitchen practices, and food donation. This follows a period of intensified inspections, resulting in 14,363 inspections and 272 cases registered for violations during the 2024-25 financial year. The success of the program highlights Kozhikode’s commitment to improving food safety standards.
