**Puducherry, March 28, 2025** – The Puducherry State Students and Parents Welfare Association is demanding a significant increase in the government quota for medical seats in private colleges. Currently, only 30% of seats are allocated under the government quota, compared to the 65% offered in most other states. The association argues this disparity places an undue financial burden on aspiring medical students and their families. In a letter to Lt. Governor K. Kailashnathan and Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, the association urged immediate action to rectify this imbalance and bring Puducherry in line with national standards. They also requested transparency from the Centralised Admission Committee regarding fees and stipends before the 2025-26 academic year counselling begins.
