**Bhadrachalam, Telangana, March 28, 2025** – The death toll from the collapse of an under-construction six-story building in Bhadrachalam has risen to two. Rescue workers recovered the body of 40-year-old mason P. Upender from the rubble after a 33-hour operation. The building, described as unauthorized, collapsed earlier this week.
The incident has sparked public outrage and protests in the temple town. Residents are demanding strong action against the building owner for allegedly violating safety regulations during the illegal construction.
Members of the CITU-affiliated Telangana Building & Other Construction Workers’ Union staged a protest rally, demanding ₹1 crore in compensation for each victim’s family and government jobs for one family member per deceased worker. They also called for measures to prevent similar tragedies. Police are investigating the cause of the collapse.
