**DHAKA, BANGLADESH** – Former Bangladesh cricket captain Tamim Iqbal has been released from hospital after undergoing a successful procedure to address a heart attack suffered during a local cricket match. The 36-year-old experienced severe chest pains on Monday while playing for Mohammedan Sporting Club in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League. He was immediately rushed to a hospital where doctors discovered an arterial blockage and inserted stents.

Iqbal was later transferred to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka for further observation. He was discharged on Friday, according to hospital officials, but faces a mandatory rehabilitation program and significant lifestyle changes. While doctors are hopeful for his eventual return to the sport, government officials have expressed more caution.

Abu Zafar of the Bangladeshi Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stated that Iqbal is expected to be sidelined from all sporting activities for at least three months. Zafar also highlighted Iqbal’s smoking habit as a contributing factor to the heart attack, urging him to quit for the sake of his health.

Iqbal, a highly decorated cricketer with over 15,000 international runs and the distinction of scoring centuries in all formats, holds a prominent place in Bangladeshi sporting history. His recovery and potential return to the cricket field will be closely watched by fans across the country.
