Thu Mar 27 14:47:14 UTC 2025: ## Yadav’s Perfume Park Jibe Sparks Political Row in Uttar Pradesh

**Lucknow, March 27, 2025** – A war of words has erupted in Uttar Pradesh between the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after SP chief Akhilesh Yadav criticized the BJP’s focus on cow shelters, likening the smell of cow dung to the BJP’s political presence.

Yadav, while addressing the media regarding a perfume park project in Kannauj, stated that the BJP’s preference for building “gaushalas” (cowsheds) reflects their liking for “foul smells,” contrasting it with the SP’s focus on projects that bring “fragrance,” such as the perfume park. He claimed that the BJP’s initiatives are hindering Kannauj’s development.

This comment drew immediate fire from Uttar Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister Keshab Prasad Maurya, who retorted sharply. Maurya, referencing a famous quote by Munshi Premchand, implied that Yadav’s dislike of the smell of cow dung indicated a disconnect from his roots and predicted the SP’s imminent political downfall. Maurya’s response also included a pointed reference to Yadav’s caste, adding a further layer of acrimony to the exchange.

The BJP’s emphasis on cow protection, including the closure of illegal slaughterhouses and the establishment of numerous cowsheds, has been a key policy since coming to power. The opposition, however, has criticized this policy, citing the resulting increase in stray cattle problems.

This latest spat comes amidst another controversy involving the Samajwadi Party. The party is currently grappling with the fallout from MP Ramji Lal Suman’s controversial remarks about the 16th-century Rajput ruler Rana Sanga, which have drawn strong condemnation from the BJP. The BJP accuses Suman of disrespecting a revered Rajput figure. The confluence of these controversies is further escalating the political tension in the state.
