**Indianapolis, IN** – March 29th marks National Vietnam War Veterans Day, commemorating the return of American POWs in 1973 and offering a belated welcome home to the millions who served. This year, American Legion posts across the country are hosting numerous events to honor the approximately 9 million veterans of the Vietnam War, including those whose service went unacknowledged upon their return.

Events range from parades and welcome home gatherings to free lunches, dinners, and ceremonies. Many are partnering with local organizations and businesses to provide food, entertainment, and commemorative gifts such as lapel pins and blankets. Some events feature guest speakers, including prominent veterans and officials.

Examples of the many events include: a “Grill and Chill” in Madison, Wisconsin; a community event in Santa Barbara, California; a welcome-home gathering in Statesboro, Georgia; and a breakfast in Edwardsville, Illinois, featuring a retired major general as keynote speaker. Numerous other cities are also hosting events including welcome home parades, pinning ceremonies, and special dinners.

The American Legion is encouraging veterans and the public to attend local events, many of which are free and open to the public.
