**Bangkok, Thailand – March 28, 2025** – Two major earthquakes, measuring 7.7 and 6.4 on the Richter scale, struck central Myanmar this morning, sending tremors across the region and causing widespread panic. The epicenters, according to the United States Geological Survey, were located within 16 and 18 kilometers of Sagaing, approximately 250 kilometers from the capital, Naypyidaw.
The powerful quakes were felt as far away as northern and central Thailand, where videos circulating on social media show buildings swaying violently and people fleeing into the streets. One resident of Chiang Mai, Duangjai, described waking to the shaking and rushing out of her home in her pajamas. Videos depict the dramatic effects of the tremors, including an infinity pool overflowing from a skyscraper’s movement and smaller pools splashing violently.
Reports suggest that one building under construction in Bangkok collapsed as a result of the earthquake, with a large plume of smoke and debris visible in footage shared online.
