Wed Mar 26 19:39:10 UTC 2025: ## Pammal and Anakaputhur’s Long-Awaited UGD Project Nears Completion
**Chennai, March 27, 2025** – Residents of Pammal and Anakaputhur can finally look forward to an end to disruptive road digging. The Tambaram Corporation announced that its ₹211-crore underground drainage (UGD) project is nearing completion and is expected to be launched by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in April.
The project, spanning 170 km and covering 1266 streets across 11 wards, involves laying new pipelines and constructing two sewage treatment plants. The corporation has employed advanced techniques, including double-wall corrugated pipes and precast machine holes, to prevent the issues encountered in previous projects. This includes the use of DWC pipes to prevent leaks and precast machine holes for faster and more durable construction. Two new pumping stations have also been built.
According to Tambaram Corporation Commissioner S. Balachander, civil works in Anakaputhur are almost complete, with only minor finishing touches remaining. In Pammal, the installation of gravity-fed pipes is the only significant outstanding task, with 95% of other civil works already finished. The project is being overseen by the Chief Secretary, with regular progress meetings.
The project was initially started by the Pammal Municipality several years ago and resumed after the merger with the Tambaram Corporation in 2021. Two contractors, VVV Constructions and Keyem Infra Project, are responsible for the Pammal and Anakaputhur sections, respectively.
