Thu Mar 27 12:44:38 UTC 2025: ## Supreme Court to Hear Plea for 2023 Class 12 Passers to Take JEE-Advanced 2025

**New Delhi, March 27, 2025** – The Supreme Court of India today issued notices to the central government and the Joint Admission Board (JAB) regarding a petition seeking to allow students who passed their Class 12 examinations in 2023 to participate in the JEE-Advanced 2025. The exam is a crucial gateway for admission to prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

Eighteen IIT aspirants, represented by senior advocate Shadan Farasat, filed the petition, arguing that a change in eligibility criteria by the JAB unfairly disadvantaged them. While the JEE-Mains, the first stage of the entrance exam, allows up to six attempts over three years, JEE-Advanced had initially increased the permitted attempts from two to three, only to revert to two attempts shortly after. This, the petitioners claim, is discriminatory and violates their right to equal opportunity.

The petitioners contend that the JAB’s policy reversal, restricting eligibility for JEE-Advanced 2025 to students who passed Class 12 in 2024 and 2025, is arbitrary and harms thousands of aspirants. They highlight a January 10th Supreme Court order acknowledging the JAB’s inconsistent press releases on eligibility criteria. The court had previously allowed some students who withdrew their applications during the period of inconsistency to register.

The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing for April 21, 2025, to hear responses from the Centre and JAB on this matter. The outcome will significantly impact the future of many aspiring IIT students.
