**Mumbai, India** – In a rare press interaction shrouded in tight security, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan addressed a range of issues plaguing the Hindi film industry, alongside his upcoming film, *Sikandar*, releasing March 30th. No cameras were permitted during the interview with NDTV.
Khan, known for his reticence, openly discussed box office pressures, the challenges of working with younger actresses, and the perceived reluctance of today’s actors to collaborate in multi-star vehicles.
Regarding box office success, Khan asserted that while hits are celebrated by filmmakers independently, flops invariably lead to blame being directed towards the star, due to their prominent screen presence. He also noted the age gap making collaborations with younger actresses like Ananya Panday and Janhvi Kapoor a more complex decision.
Khan pointed to inflated budgets as a significant problem within Bollywood, hindering the creation of diverse films, and cited a lack of versatility among contemporary actors, stating, “We are going wrong with our budgets. We are going totally wrong with our budgets. Once our budgets are in control, everything is going to be okay.” He lamented the current trend of filmmakers catering to their own sensibilities rather than the audience, resulting in a disconnect and the need for “spoon-feeding.” He also criticized the prevalent practice of film production driven by actors’ availability or other factors rather than a compelling script.
Khan highlighted a notable reluctance amongst younger actors to participate in multi-star projects, contrasting this with his own extensive collaborations with contemporaries like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, and others. He revealed having offered a film to unnamed actors who declined due to various reasons, including lack of understanding of the genre or unwillingness to work alongside others.
Finally, Khan confirmed that Atlee’s film, in which he stars, has been delayed, primarily due to its substantial budget. The interview concluded with a focus on the upcoming release of *Sikandar*.
