Thu Mar 27 15:30:00 UTC 2025: ## BCCI Set to Shake Up Men’s Cricket Central Contracts

**Guwahati, India –** The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is poised to announce significant changes to its men’s team central contracts, potentially demoting some of the country’s biggest stars. A meeting scheduled for March 29th in Guwahati between chief selector Ajit Agarkar, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia will finalize the contracts following the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

According to reports in Dainik Jagran, the selection committee is divided over the future of several key players, including captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja. All three currently hold A+ contracts, the highest tier, but their recent retirements from T20Is and inconsistent performances in Test cricket have fueled speculation about potential demotions to the A category. The report suggests that top BCCI officials have already indicated a reluctance to renew their A+ contracts due to their uncertain future in red-ball cricket.

While Jasprit Bumrah’s A+ contract appears secure, the future of other players remains uncertain. Shubman Gill might be elevated to A+, while Yashavi Jaiswal and Axar Patel could receive promotions to the A category. Conversely, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s position in the C category is reportedly under threat. Several new players, including Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana, and Abhishek Sharma, are expected to enter the C category.

The BCCI’s previous contract announcements saw Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan dropped for not fulfilling domestic cricket commitments. While Iyer is expected to regain his contract, Kishan’s future remains unclear. The upcoming decisions will significantly impact the financial and reputational standing of the players and reflect the BCCI’s evolving assessment of the national team’s needs and talent. The final contract list is expected to be released soon after the March 29th meeting.
