Thu Mar 27 15:47:07 UTC 2025: ## Karnatak University Lecturers Continue Indefinite Strike
**Hubballi, March 27, 2025** – Assistant and guest lecturers at Karnatak University and its constituent colleges continued their indefinite strike for a fourth day on Thursday, demanding higher remuneration and improved working conditions. The lecturers are seeking the implementation of a September 2022 Syndicate decision to raise their salaries from ₹28,000 to ₹40,000.
The protesting teachers, who began their strike on March 24th, also demand year-round employment with pay and the reinstatement of an exemption from annual interviews for lecturers with over three years of experience. Association president Sharanu Mushtigeri expressed deep disappointment at the lack of response from both the state government and university management over the past three years. He vowed to continue the strike until all demands are met.
Retired teacher and activist Mohan Siddhanti criticized the university for its perceived injustice towards guest lecturers. Activist Laxman Bakkai joined the protest in solidarity.
During the protest, association general secretary Mahadev Arera was hospitalized after experiencing chest pain.
Representatives from Karnatak University, including Acting Vice-Chancellor Jayashree S., attempted to negotiate with the protestors but were unsuccessful in ending the strike. The agitation is expected to continue.
