Wed Mar 26 17:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Filipina Teenager Eala Upsets Australian Open Champion Keys at Miami Open
**Miami, FL** – Alexandra Eala, a 19-year-old Filipina tennis player, pulled off a stunning upset at the Miami Open, defeating Australian Open champion Madison Keys 6-4, 6-2 in the third round. This victory marks Eala’s second win over a top-30 opponent, making her the first Filipino player to ever defeat a top-10 ranked player since the WTA rankings began in 1975.
Eala, ranked 140th in the world, dominated the match, breaking Keys’ serve six times. Her performance builds on her already historic run at the tournament, which included a second-round win over 2017 French Open champion Jeļena Ostapenko. This win also surpasses the combined Miami Open wins of every other Filipino player in the Open Era.
“I don’t think I’ve had the time to process everything that’s happened,” Eala said after her victory. “It’s a big thing to take in, and I’m so super proud of what I was able to accomplish, but it definitely fuels me more.”
Eala, a trainee at Rafael Nadal’s academy since age 13, will next face No. 10 seed Paula Badosa in the round of 16.
Elsewhere in the tournament, American Amanda Anisimova ended Mirra Andreeva’s 13-match winning streak, while Novak Djokovic broke Rafael Nadal’s record for most match wins at Masters 1000 events, securing his 411th victory. Djokovic will play Lorenzo Musetti in the round of 16.
