**Mumbai, March 27, 2025** – Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray criticized the Maharashtra government today for its handling of two separate incidents involving alleged insults of public figures. Thackeray highlighted the disparity in how the government responded to comedian Kunal Kamra’s parody targeting Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and actor Rahul Solapurkar’s comments about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
While Kamra, whose song led to an attack on a studio, has been summoned twice by Mumbai Police, Solapurkar, who questioned a popular account of Shivaji Maharaj’s escape from Agra Fort, has faced no such action, Thackeray noted. The UBT leader frequently refers to Mr. Shinde as a “traitor” for his role in the 2022 party split. Solapurkar’s comments, which suggested Shivaji Maharaj bribed officials, drew criticism from right-wing groups.
Thackeray further criticized the BJP’s “Saugat-e-Modi” outreach program for Muslim families, contrasting it with previous accusations of “Satta-Jihad” levelled against the Shiv Sena for its support among Muslim voters. He questioned the BJP’s apparent shift in stance on this issue.
