Thu Mar 27 06:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Mohanlal’s ‘L2: Empuraan’ Delivers Stylish Action, but Falls Short on Story

**Hyderabad, March 27, 2025** – Mohanlal’s highly anticipated sequel to the blockbuster “Lucifer,” titled “L2: Empuraan,” has hit theaters. Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, the film boasts stylish action sequences and a star-studded cast, including Mohanlal, Prithviraj Sukumaran himself, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Abhimanyu Singh, and Indrajith Sukumaran. However, while visually impressive, the film’s complex plot and lengthy runtime leave some viewers wanting more.

The film picks up where “Lucifer” left off, with Stephen Nedumpally (Mohanlal) going into hiding following the death of PK Ramadas (Sachin Khedekar). The story follows the subsequent political turmoil and corruption orchestrated by Jatin Ramadas (Tovino Thomas), who forms a new party and aligns with the powerful ASM party led by Baba Bharangi (Abhimanyu Singh). Stephen’s return is prompted by the escalating crisis and the threat to his legacy.

While the first half successfully builds suspense with political intrigue and introduces the international drug mafia element, the pacing is slow. Mohanlal’s iconic character, Abraham Kureishi, doesn’t appear until 50 minutes into the film. Although the interval block delivers a thrilling action sequence, the second half descends into a predictable revenge narrative lacking the emotional depth and compelling conflict of its predecessor. The film also suffers from an overwhelming number of characters, each receiving extensive introductions that distract from the main plot. The decision to delay revealing Abraham Kureishi’s backstory and his involvement in the international drug cartel until a potential third installment leaves the audience with a sense of incompletion.

Mohanlal delivers a stylish performance, and the action sequences are a highlight, benefiting from superb choreography and cinematography. Prithviraj’s direction, especially the action sequences, is visually impressive. However, the film’s complex narrative and lengthy runtime may test the patience of viewers. The Telugu dubbing also requires improvement, with a significant portion of the dialogue remaining in Hindi and English. Overall, while “L2: Empuraan” provides visual spectacle and Mohanlal’s star power, its convoluted plot and predictable second half prevent it from reaching the heights of its predecessor. Whether a third part is necessary remains a question for viewers.
