**Bengaluru, March 26, 2025** – To curb impersonation and irregularities during the Common Entrance Test (CET), the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) will deploy facial recognition technology at all exam centers statewide this year. This expands on last year’s pilot program which used the technology at select centers only.
The KEA has developed a web-based application for this purpose, using Microsoft’s facial recognition technology. Each student’s admission ticket will include a QR code linking to their details. Invigilators, with a ratio of one additional invigilator per 100 students, will scan these codes and capture student photographs for verification against the KEA’s database. The system will also transmit student data to invigilators’ mobile phones for efficient verification.
Prasanna H., Executive Director of the KEA, stated that this system was successfully used during the police sub-inspector recruitment exam and the CET application process. He emphasized the improved security this year, with the KEA managing the technology in-house instead of outsourcing it.
