**Agra, Uttar Pradesh, March 27, 2025** – Members of the Karni Sena, a Rajput caste group, attacked the Agra residence of Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha MP Ramji Lal Suman on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. The attack, which resulted in property damage and minor injuries, stemmed from Suman’s recent comments questioning the historical portrayal of Rana Sanga, a 16th-century Rajput ruler.
Dozens of Karni Sena activists vandalized Suman’s home, damaging cars, breaking windows and furniture, and using abusive language. Some even arrived on a bulldozer. Police intervened, using mild force to disperse the crowd, resulting in minor injuries to both attackers and officers. Videos of the incident quickly circulated on social media.
Suman’s son, Ranjit Suman, alleged that the attackers were armed with sticks, swords, and rods, claiming the family had received prior threats, which the administration allegedly ignored. The MP’s controversial remarks referred to Rana Sanga’s invitation of Babur, implying that those who consider themselves descendants of Babur should also consider themselves descendants of a “traitor.”
Agra’s Hariparwat police station confirmed the incident, stating that an FIR is being filed and strict action will be taken against those involved. Additional police have been deployed to maintain peace.
Samajwadi Party president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav condemned the attack, criticizing the state government’s response and accusing the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using historical issues for political gain. He defended Suman, stating that the MP was only highlighting a biased historical narrative and did not intend to insult Rajput society.
