**Srinagar, March 26, 2025** – Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted a major crackdown on Wednesday, raiding 16 residences of prominent separatist leaders across the Kashmir Valley. The raids, carried out under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), targeted individuals affiliated with banned organizations, including jailed Tehreek-e-Hurriyat chairman Masarat Alam, former Hurriyat chairman Abdul Ghani Bhat, and Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) head Shabir Ahmad Shah.
The operation, spanning Anantnag, Srinagar, Baramulla, and Bandipora districts, follows a week of intensified searches targeting separatist leaders and their supporters. Police stated that the investigation aims to dismantle the remaining secessionist and terrorist networks in the region. Multiple locations were searched, including the homes of Bhat (in both Sopore and Srinagar), Alam, and Shah. All searches were conducted with proper legal authorization and witnessed by magistrates and independent observers.
Among those targeted were several senior separatist leaders in Anantnag, affiliated with groups like the Muslim Conference and Jammu Kashmir People’s League. A police spokesman in Anantnag emphasized the operation’s goal of neutralizing networks threatening regional peace and stability.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha reinforced the government’s stance, asserting that there will be no tolerance for separatist activities. He emphasized the region’s shift towards economic development and its secure future within India.
