Thu Mar 27 03:16:39 UTC 2025: ## Hamas Spokesperson Killed in Israeli Air Strike
**GAZA CITY, Palestine –** A senior Hamas spokesperson, Abdel-Latif al-Qanoua, was killed in an Israeli air strike in northern Gaza early Thursday morning, multiple news outlets reported. The strike targeted his tent shelter in Jabalia, resulting in several additional injuries, including children, according to Al Jazeera.
This latest attack comes amid a renewed Israeli offensive in Gaza that began March 18th, following the collapse of a two-month ceasefire. The Israeli military has significantly escalated its air and ground assault, resulting in a catastrophic loss of life. Since the renewed offensive, over 830 Palestinians have been killed, with women and children accounting for over half of the casualties, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health. The overall death toll since the start of the conflict in late 2023 has surpassed 50,000 Palestinians.
Al-Qanoua’s death follows the killings of other senior Hamas officials in recent days, including Ismail Barhoum and Salah al-Bardaweel. Eleven of the 20-member Hamas political office have now been killed. The escalating violence occurs against the backdrop of stalled ceasefire negotiations, mediated by the US, Qatar, and Egypt. Hamas accuses Israel of sabotaging the talks, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insists Hamas rejected proposals for a ceasefire extension. Netanyahu has further threatened to seize territory in Gaza if Hamas fails to release the hostages taken during the October 7th attack on southern Israel. The conflict continues to cause a devastating humanitarian crisis, with over 142,000 Palestinians displaced according to the UN.
