Wed Mar 26 11:23:12 UTC 2025: ## US Scales Back Greenland Trip Amidst Outrage Over Trump’s Purchase Offer

**Nuuk, Greenland/Copenhagen, Denmark** – A planned high-level US delegation trip to Greenland has been significantly scaled back following widespread outrage over President Trump’s previous attempt to purchase the territory. Initially, Second Lady Usha Vance was scheduled to lead a delegation including top US officials to Nuuk, the capital, and participate in the annual dog-sled race. However, this visit has been canceled due to fierce anti-American sentiment in Greenland, sparked by Trump’s controversial proposal.

Mass protests, described as the largest in Greenland’s history, erupted in response to the purchase suggestion. Greenland’s acting head of government, Mute Egede, condemned the planned visit as a provocation, stating that the trust between Greenland and the US has been irrevocably damaged.

In response to the growing backlash, the White House revised its plans. The delegation will now be led by Vice President JD Vance and will be limited solely to the US Space and Military Base at Pituffik in northern Greenland. The revised visit will take place from March 27th to 29th, 2025.

Denmark, which holds sovereignty over Greenland, also voiced its disapproval of the original plan, with Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen welcoming the scaled-back visit. However, some Danish politicians, such as Karsten Honge, believe the US was forced to change its plans due to the overwhelming negative reaction from Greenland’s population. They suggest the original itinerary, including visits to Nuuk and Sisimiut, was abandoned to avoid further protests. The revised plan, while welcomed by some, highlights the significant strain in US-Greenland relations resulting from Trump’s earlier, ill-received proposal.
