TIRUNELVELI, March 27, 2025 – Tirunelveli City Police have swiftly apprehended three individuals accused of defrauding a cryptocurrency trader of ₹75 lakh (approximately $90,000 USD). The suspects, identified as L. Mohammed Riaz (36), A. Ayyadurai (37), and P. Esakkimuthu (28), allegedly posed as forex traders to convince S. Antony Selvan, a 40-year-old web designer and cryptocurrency trader, to transfer 82,691 USD Tether to Riaz’s electronic wallet. Selvan subsequently discovered that he received worthless copies of currency in return.

Acting swiftly on Selvan’s complaint filed on Monday, a special police team tracked the suspects to Dindigul, Palani, and Palakkad. Within 24 hours, the trio were arrested and the stolen cryptocurrency was recovered from Riaz’s wallet. The recovered Tether will be presented as evidence in court. Tirunelveli Commissioner of Police Santosh Hadimani praised the efficiency of the operation.
