**Chennai, March 27, 2025** – Chennai police shot and killed one suspect and arrested two others in connection with a series of chain snatching incidents in the city. The suspects, all reportedly members of a notorious Mumbai-based gang, were apprehended following a Tuesday morning crime spree.

According to Chennai Police Commissioner A. Arun, the deceased, identified as Jaffer Gulamhusan Irani (28), was ranked third among Mumbai’s gangsters. He was shot during an attempted escape while police were recovering stolen jewelry and a two-wheeler near Taramani MRTS station. Irani allegedly opened fire on officers.

The two arrested suspects are Meesan Amjith Irani (23) and Salman Hussain (25). Police recovered all stolen jewelry. Meesan and Jaffer arrived in Chennai on Tuesday morning, while Salman, who had purchased a high-end two-wheeler in Bidar, Karnataka, arrived earlier. The trio met at the airport before carrying out the thefts.

Commissioner Arun stated that the gang, originating from an Iranian settlement in Mumbai, had no local support and operated across the country. He also emphasized that the encounter was not pre-planned but occurred during police duty. Further investigations are underway to identify any additional accomplices.
